Deborah Cox To Star In “The Bodygaurd Musical”

When we heard that Deborah Cox would be covering some of Whitney Houston’s old songs for Lifetime’s Whitney biopic earlier this year, we knew that she would have some big shoes to fill. But the R&B singer totally nailed it. Soon, she’ll be tasked with following in Houston’s footsteps again.

According to Broadway.com, Cox scored the leading role in the musical theater adaptation of “The Bodyguard.” The award-winning musical, which first premiered in London back in 2012, will be headed to the United States in 2016.

Cox will be playing the role of superstar Rachel Marron, who requires protection from an unknown stalker. The musical will feature a host of fan favorites including “I Will Always Love You,” “Saving All My Love,” “So Emotional,” “Queen of the Night,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “Run To You,” and “One Moment In Time.”

The tour’s schedule and additional casting announcements will be made at a later date. Currently, Cox is preparing for the summer release of her new album Work of Art. She is also starring in a musical based on the life of Josephine Baker. On top of all that, she’ll be hosting Clear Channel Spectacolor’s simulcast of the 2015 Tony Awards on June 7.

“I am also honored to represent two of the most iconic and historic women tof the 20th century with the Broadway bound ‘Josephine’ project and now the ‘Bodyguard,’” Cox told the Huffington Post. “As a performing artist, it’s a dream of a lifetime to now have an opportunity to not only sing, but to also feature my acting and dancing talents. What a blessing!”
