Nia Long in The Divide spells “HIT”!

"The Best Man Holiday" - Los Angeles PremiereWE TV’s first scripted drama, “The Divide”, will premiere July 16th at 9pm.  The eight-episode series is written by the Academy Award(R) and Emmy(R) nominated Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra, The Fisher King, Water for Elephants, The Ref, The Bridges of Madison County), with Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, Conviction, Justified, Damages, Dexter, A Walk on the Moon) directing the premiere episode. Co-created by LaGravenese and Goldwyn, the series is produced by AMC studios. The Divide is a thought-provoking and suspenseful drama that explores the personal cost of morality, ambition, ethics, politics, and race in today’s justice system through the eyes of Christine Rosa played by Marin Ireland (Homeland, Boss, Side Effects), an impassioned caseworker with The Innocence Initiative, and Adam Page played by Damon Gupton (The Newsroom, Prime Suspect), an equally passionate district attorney and political rising star.

In the series, Nia Long plays the wife of Adam Page, ” Billie Page”, a powerhouse corporate attorney at a crossroads in her personal and professional life.

‘We’re not becoming those people, are we?” says Billie Page, the high-powered lawyer suspicious of the self-righteous path she’s traveling with Adam, her district attorney-husband.

It’s a line of questioning that, in WE tv’s new series, “The Divide,” will introduce viewers to a high-powered African-American couple forced to revisit a 10-year-old murder case they assumed was closed for good.

“The Divide” premieres Wednesday with stars Nia Long and Damon Gupton, and is WE’s first original drama series. It’s a big programming step for a network best-known for celebrity reality shows and old reruns of “Will and Grace.”

“People think of WE as reality TV for women — we’ll be the first to help them broaden the audience,” says Long, who plays Billie.

Unlike “Scandal’s” Mellie Grant, the subservient and timid wife of President Fitzgerald Grant, Billie is an outspoken equal — both in her household and in the legal arena.

(“The Divide” is written and directed by “Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn, who plays Fitzgerald Grant.)

After previewing the season premiere, I must say I am anxious to see more!!
