Spelhouse Homecoming with AspireTV’s own, Butter & Brown!

Over the weekend, IHTG had the pleasure of attending the Spelhouse homecoming of 2018! From the music to the celebrations of the HBCUs, everything was immaculate. It felt like a huge family cookout rather than being surrounded by strangers.

What made this family reunion seem more at home was being able to connect with Aspire TVs very own cast of Butter + Brown. The cast members include Leslie and Seth who are all out authentic and hilarious! Within the first two minutes of conversation, we were laughing hysterically and building a bond based off a comment about the mic! As we dug into the juicy interview, Leslie began to share how their journey of Butter + Brown began as a web series. They stated that their journey began by having a simple conversation about being broke and thinking of a way to make some money! So they began recording their life as best friends who both share a passion for great cooking and sh#t talking!

The first season of the Butter + Brown culinary series premiered on the AspireTV network at the top of October. The series was created, co-executive produced and hosted by Seth Brundle and Leslie Antonoff, while Issa Rae and Chef G. Garvin serve as executive producers.

“We get in the kitchen and make a lot of mistakes! But we keep learning and growing because we are doing what we love”

For those of you who enjoy laughter, authenticity and good cooking, this show is just for you! They are funny, down to earth and they provide recipes for cocktails and meals! Also, one thing that Seth said that I absolutely loved is that neither of them went to a culinary school to learn any of this! He said “we get in the kitchen and make a lot of mistakes! But we keep learning and growing because we are doing what we love” That was so inspiring and truly made me want to get in the kitchen to make some mistakes myself!

While enjoying The HBCUs and All of the Black Magic this weekend, we also had the chance to catch up with Aspire TVs very own general manager, Melissa Ingram. During our interview, she shared with us that she started Aspire TV because she felt that “our community needs to see more positive images of us!” Wow, that was definitely inspiring to hear that she shares the same mission as IHTG! It’s so powerful and important that we create platforms like this so that our black excellence is narrated and presented in a way of excellence! To meet her was a major bonus! She was so down to earth, sweet and relatable! She shared with me how this all started from an idea and made it a reality because of her passion and persistence. She is such a dope black chick! She also shared that she is an alumnus of Spelman college and that she looks forward to doing so much more in the community. We look forward to supporting you, Melissa!
